Course content

This program will allow you to efficiently become a safe Instrument pilot who will be able to get the most utility and enjoyment out of your Cirrus and its advanced systems. The minimum requirements for the instrument rating can be completed by a combination of flight training in the aircraft and an approved AATD

(minimum of 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time and 50 hours of PIC cross-country flight time)

 

All hours of training and cost mentioned above are an estimate based on the minimum requirements, students may been additional training time to reach the required proficiency which may increase the cost of their training.

Instructor cost of traveling and accommodation will be added if the training is conducted out of base.

 

FLIGHT REVIEW

 To keep your license current, the FAA requires a biennial flight review with a Certified Flight Instructor –CFI every 24 months. 

 

INSTRUMENT PROFICIENCY CHECK

 An IPC, conducted by a CFII, is a full review of knowledge and procedures needed to safely fly an aircraft
on an instrument flight plan flown under actual or simulated (“under the hood”) instrument meteorological flight conditions.

Course Structure


The instrument rating program consists of three stages:

Stage 1:

Basic Attitude Instrument Flying (BAI)
In this initial stage, you will learn to maintain straight and level flight, perform standard rate turns, and execute constant speed climbs and descents, all by reference to your instruments.


Stage 2:

IFR Cross-Country Flight
This stage introduces you to the IFR en-route structure and instrument approaches. You will plan and execute IFR cross-country flights using GPS and VOR navigation. You'll gain experience flying along airways, navigating controlled and uncontrolled airspace, and mastering the IFR functionalities of your avionics. We emphasize practical experience by taking students on cross-country flights that span multiple states, exposing them to various airspace and weather conditions. We also cover the capabilities of WAAS and the new Cirrus Perspective-equipped aircraft.


Stage 3:

IFR Approach Procedures
In this final stage, you will refine your skills in flying IFR approaches and prepare for your check ride. This phase includes training on missed approach procedures, holding patterns, and circle-to-land approaches. You will complete this stage upon passing your IFR check ride and becoming an instrument-rated pilot.

The course is structured as an accelerated 13-day program, with the check ride on the 14th day. We can customize the schedule to fit your needs, whether you prefer two one-week sessions with a break in between or five three-day weekends.

The total cost for the instrument course package is $13,930, which includes an instructor and flight training materials. You have the option to train in your own aircraft or rent one of ours. Please note that if you choose to rent our aircraft, fuel costs are not included, and Washington State Sales Tax will apply. Additionally, any instructor travel expenses incurred for training away from our base will be added.

Before training begins, we require you to complete the instrument written exam. We can assist you with the written test and provide the necessary endorsement prior to starting your training.
